The Art of Posing: Becoming Unforgettable on Stage

The Art of Posing: Becoming Unforgettable on Stage

As a former WBFF bikini world champion, a professional belly dancer, and now a ballerina in the making, I’ve spent over 20 years dancing, performing, and living on stage. I’ve trained in jazz, lyrical, belly dance, fitness posing — you name it. And through all of those years, one thing has remained true:

The more stage time you can get, the better.

I cannot stress this enough to my clients.

Posing is not just about hitting a shape. It’s about presence. Confidence. Energy. Storytelling. It’s about commanding attention without saying a single word. And the only way to truly develop that skill is through practice, repetition, and putting yourself out there over and over again.

Practice Is Everything

You cannot expect to feel confident on stage if you only practice posing once in a while in your bedroom mirror.

Stage presence is built through experience.

The more you expose yourself to performing in front of others, the more natural it becomes. Your nerves calm down. Your movements become intentional. Your transitions become smoother. Your confidence grows.

That’s why I always encourage my clients to do more than just bikini or fitness posing classes.

Take a dance class.
Try heels choreography.
Go to a beginner ballet class.
Join a performance workshop.

Anything that gets you:

  • Moving differently
  • Learning choreography
  • Remembering routines
  • Performing in front of people
  • Becoming comfortable being seen

Because posing is performance.

And performance is a skill that must be practiced.

Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable

One of the biggest things I tell my clients is:

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

That’s where growth happens.

Walk into the class where you know nobody.
Dance even if you feel awkward.
Perform even if you feel nervous.
Push yourself even when your inner voice tells you not to.

The women who grow the most are not always the most naturally talented they’re the ones willing to put themselves out there anyway.

Confidence isn’t something you magically wake up with one day.

It’s built through action.

Every single time you challenge yourself, you create evidence that you are capable. And eventually, what once felt terrifying starts to feel empowering.

Create a Stage Character

Something else that has helped me tremendously over the years is creating a stage persona.

When I perform belly dance, I transform into “Sahara” from Sahara Nights Belly Dance. She’s confident, magnetic, feminine, powerful, playful. She allows me to step outside of my own head and fully embody the performance.

And honestly? I think we all need a little alter ego sometimes.

I joke that I channel my inner Beyoncé when I perform and maybe that sounds dorky but it works.

Because the second you stop focusing on yourself and start focusing on the character, the energy changes.

You stop worrying about:

  • What people think
  • Whether you look silly
  • If you’re perfect

And you start performing.

That’s when the magic happens.

Slowing Down Has Been My Biggest Challenge

Ironically, one of the hardest things for me lately has been slowing down.

I’m naturally a very fast-paced mover. I love energy, sharpness, intensity, and performance. So transitioning into fit model posing where everything is softer, slower, and more controlled has challenged me in a completely different way.

And honestly? That’s a good thing.

Growth comes from stepping into styles and experiences that force us to evolve.

Even after decades of performing, I’m still learning. Still refining. Still becoming a better athlete and performer.

That’s the beauty of this journey.

Posing Is About More Than Physique

At the end of the day, posing is not just about your body.

It’s about:

  • Confidence
  • Energy
  • Presence
  • Emotional connection
  • Storytelling
  • Grace under pressure

The physique may get people’s attention initially, but your stage presence is what makes people remember you.

And helping women discover that confidence within themselves honestly fills my bucket more than anything else. Watching women step into their power, own their femininity, and light up on stage is one of the greatest gifts I get to experience.

Final Thoughts

If you want to become great on stage:

  • Practice constantly
  • Get more stage time
  • Try new styles of movement
  • Push yourself outside your comfort zone
  • Learn to perform, not just pose
  • Create a character that empowers you
  • Most importantly — keep showing up

Because confidence is earned through repetition.

I’m personally so excited to get back on stage, continue growing in fit model posing, and chase that coveted pro card once again.

And trust me I’ll still be channeling a little Sasha Fierce
